How technology and skill combine to support natural-looking and strong veneers

Veneers are one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatments. However, not all centers are the same. In fact, nothing affects the results that you get from this type of treatment more than the planning, skill, and care in the execution of the professional performing this treatment. At Timeless Dentistry, you have peace of mind that your veneers and other dental restorations will look completely natural. Everything from their shade to their shape, contour, and projection will blend in seamlessly with the rest of your smile and complement your features. This is partly due to our use of the best materials and technologies that money can buy, but the main reason that veneers designed and built at our Forest Hills, New York office last for many years is our planning process, which you will see with your own eyes and feel in your own mouth from the start.

Many providers, even skilled ones, choose to jump straight into a veneer treatment without proper preparation. But at Timeless Dentistry, significant treatment always begins with a discussion about your goals, a complete set of photos and digital scans to allow a complete diagnosis of the functional and esthetic changes we need to achieve, and then a digital design that allows us to transfer a mock-up of the planned veneers’ shape directly into your mouth. In this way, not only do you get to see exactly what the final result will look like, but we also get to ensure that no tooth structure is removed unnecessarily. Many of our patients are excited about getting their teeth whitened, but have seen videos online where people have had their teeth ground down to the size of a grain of rice to have the teeth of their dreams. Not only is this certainly not a three-step process, but it’s also something that has not been necessary for any dental treatment for at least the last 40 years of dental technological progress. At Timeless Dentistry, we are committed to the most minimally invasive treatment possible that addresses all your dental functional and esthetic goals.

Why are veneers so popular?

Veneers are dental coverings that can quickly and naturally improve the appearance of many cosmetic imperfections, ranging from chipped teeth to small teeth or gaps between teeth. The dental materials used are super-strong ceramics that are known to look indistinguishable from natural tooth enamel and are also 5-15 times stronger than traditional dental porcelain. These ceramics are virtually immune to staining and hold up well due to their exceptional durability and strength. Our Prosthodontists, Dr. Paul Springs and Dr. Becca Baer always recommend the least destructive methods of restoring your teeth (often that means veneers), as they are a great value and a highly dependable long-term investment in your smile and personal well-being. Studies have shown that, when ideally applied and secured to the front surfaces of otherwise “flawed” teeth, these ceramic shells can even strengthen the tooth when done correctly. Sometimes, esthetic dental ceramics can even be applied to cover up areas of gum recession, which exposes the tooth’s roots and leaves it vulnerable to future (and severe) damage. However, our team is also skilled in gingival plastic surgeries to achieve more predictable outcomes and biologically restore these areas of recession in situations where a more conservative approach is warranted.

How does your skill support the best result?

Our powerful combination of training, technology, and co-diagnosis with you as an active participant ensures that your veneers fit well, are made right the first time, look exactly as you want them to, and also hold up as promised. Unlike many other dental offices near us and much farther afield, we handle every step of the veneers process in-house. We do not need to send information about your teeth to an outside lab in another state or even another country. Outsourcing even the smallest steps of this all-important process of crafting restorations can add weeks to the timeline. In 99% of offices, if the veneers do not look exactly as the patient wanted, the dentist has no choice but to start the process over again. On the other hand, the small changes that are occasionally recommended at the time of veneer placement can usually be applied in our office in a matter of minutes, thanks to our close collaboration with top-notch dental laboratory technicians and our doctors’ advanced training and experience in dental laboratory technology.

Our full-service dental laboratory is staffed by two technicians with extensive experience gained in the process of years spent managing New York State’s most technologically advanced dental lab. These technicians use 3D printing and other computer-assisted processes to craft 99% of all dental restorations in-office. We have the skills and capabilities to make, modify, and repair just about any restoration to our exacting quality standards.

How long do veneers last?

Because of our commitment to the highest-quality craftsmanship and materials, our veneers can last for many decades. Not only do our dentists and lab technicians use the most stable, time-tested materials available, but they also integrate half a century of dental clinical research to ensure the highest bond strengths and stability possible. Even in patients who require veneers due to decades of punishing tooth grinding, our veneers stand up because we follow the science in every aspect of what we do.

And just as our skill and craftsmanship matter, how you care for your veneers is also key to lengthening their “lifespan.” You want to practice good, healthy habits and behaviors to protect your dental work and your natural, unaltered teeth from the type of damage that leads to the need for veneers and other restorations (like crowns). This includes maintaining excellent home hygiene, avoiding destructive habits (such as using teeth as tools), and regularly using protective devices to maintain your restorations if your dentist has diagnosed a clenching or grinding tendency based on the wear patterns of your teeth.

How should I care for my treated teeth?

For the most part, you should care for them like you would any other teeth. This means that you must thoroughly brush your teeth twice daily and floss well every day. Don’t miss dental checkups or services like professional teeth cleanings, which remove damaging substances that a standard toothbrush cannot remove. It’s also essential to avoid any abrasive oral care products and behaviors that could cause your ceramic or natural teeth to chip or crack. These behaviors include chewing on hard objects and grinding your teeth. For patients who show signs of clenching or grinding their teeth (it may have led to chipping in the first place), Timeless Dentistry makes nightguards and other oral protective devices in-house. These custom-fit “guards” protect your veneers, keeping them looking great and functioning for years to come.

Start quote Timeless Dentistry is a remarkable practice lead by Dr Paul Springs. Everyone in the practice is warm, friendly and welcoming. I’ve never experienced a practice that’s committed to providing a total dental experience that focuses on an accurate professional diagnosis, personalized care and concern for your comfort & satisfaction. I needed and received implants. Like most I was concerned about pain (which was minimal to nonexistent) and what was the process. Everything was clearly explained and what resulted was a set of beautiful “new teeth” and a smile that has restored my confidence and ability to enjoy the foods my old teeth couldn’t have handled! I can’t stop singing Dr. Paul and his staff’s praises —they are totally AWESOME!! I would highly recommend them if you’re in need of a dental practice. End quote
